A white paper on this subject has been followed up by consultation on views about planning and affordable housing policies intended to speed up the development of large scale, purpose built privately rented housing.

One of the main proposed measures is encouraging an alternative approach to affordable housing for build to rent called Affordable Private Rent (sometimes called Discounted Market Rent.
